Musical Genres and Traditions
Module Summary This module considers ‘why?'' and ‘how?'' we should draw on music from a range of genres and traditions in our teaching. This module will develop your ability to: Use music from a range other styles and genres confidently in your teaching know how different musical genres and styles offer new approaches for music teaching and learning and draw on these Be aware of the ways in which children use music for self-expression and to create group and individual identity Understand how music from different genres and traditions can enable children to develop a greater understanding of different societies and cultures Study Guide (Click to download the PDF - you must be logged in) This module comprises a Study Guide and a workshop. The two elements are linked through two ‘Key Tasks’. First, work through the Study Guide up to and including Key Task 1. You should take your response to this task to the workshop where it will form the basis of one of the workshop activities. Following the workshop, work through the remainder of the Study Guide and complete Key Task 2. To demonstrate engagement with this module the minimum you should record in your portfolio your response to the two key tasks (guide: 400 words each). The activities within the module are there to support your learning and you are encouraged to draw upon them in responding to the Key Tasks. However they are not compulsory. If you have not read the Programme Handbook you should do so now.
