Music and the Wider Curriculum
Module summary This module looks at ways in which music teaching and learning can be supported by and supportive of the wider primary school curriculum and how an awareness of this approach can be of value to both the school community and children’s musical development. This module addresses the following questions: Do I know how primary teachers plan and organise the curriculum both in subject-specific and cross-curricular ways? Do I understand ways in which learning in one area of the curriculum can support learning in one or more other areas of the curriculum Do I have experience of cross-curriculum music projects in primary schools? To demonstrate engagement with this module the minimum you should record in your portfolio is your response to the two key tasks (guide: 400 words each). The additional activity is there to support your learning but is not compulsory. If you have not read the Programme Handbook you should do so now.
